Enter the price of the item(s) you wish to purchase. Specify if the price on the tag already includes tax, and adjust the store processing fee if applicable. Many major department stores (like Isetan, Mitsukoshi, Daimaru) charge a 1.55% processing fee on tax-free transactions, meaning you won't get the full 10% back.
⚠️ Important Notice: Japan Tax-Free System Changes
Current System (Until October 31, 2026):
You can purchase items tax-free directly at the store by showing your passport, or pay the tax-inclusive price and get a refund at a dedicated counter inside the store before you leave. The minimum purchase amount is ¥5,000 (excluding tax).
New System (From November 1, 2026):
For purchases made on or after November 1, 2026, Japan will switch to a refund-based tax-free shopping system.
- You will pay the tax-inclusive price at the store, even for tax-free items.
- Upon departure (within 90 days of purchase), you must present the items to Customs at the airport or seaport to confirm they are being taken out of Japan.
- After Customs verification, the consumption tax equivalent will be refunded to you by the tax-free store or a commissioned refund agency (e.g., via credit card or cashless payment).

Scenario: You buy a luxury bag at a department store for ¥110,000 (tax included).
- Tax-inclusive Price: ¥110,000
- Base Price (Tax-free): ¥100,000
- Initial Tax Refund (10%): ¥10,000
- Department Store Fee (1.55% of base): ¥1,550
